A cute couple gets married after which the wife is recognized with Alzheimer’s disease (memory fades). The first half deals with how they fall in love and the second half deals with the tragedy that beckons. Nicely made movie and is touching at times – the climax is brilliant and gives you a nice feel. Good watch. Slightly longer, but bearable.
A Very Long Engagement (French)
It’s been quite a long time since I’ve watched a movie that is visually brilliant as this one. Five French soldiers are executed during World War I and one of them happens to be engaged to Audrey Tautou, a young woman who is physically challenged. The woman believes that her fiancĂ©e is not dead and runs her own investigation to find out the truth behind his disappearance. The story is told in the form of narration and short flashbacks and screenplay keeps us intrigued until the end. The visuals are sheer poetry! The first 30 seconds alone is a testimony to the work of cinematographer and art-director.
A secret agent loses his pregnant wife to a mad serial killer. He tracks the killer down and causes him physical suffering every time he attempts something bad. The killer doesn’t buckle down and gets back at the cop where it hurts him the most. A brilliant cat and mouse game! Warning: not for the weak hearted as the violence is remarkably vivid and disturbing. What I loved in the movie is the violin interludes in the most unlikely of the situations.
Check out other Audrey Tautou movies too.. they are in gen good..
