New York Diaries

Facts!

The first time I travelled on subway, I fell flat on my back in front of compartment full of people. The subway system is phenomenal. I just can't believe it works! But, Hyderabad suburban stations are much more beautiful and good looking than the New York subways(shady!).

But, New York girls are much more beautiful and good looking that Hyderabad girls... Outside New York, people are unbelievably obese. I I don't know why good looking women and well dressed men never press the 'door close' button on the lift.

I started to lose so much hair, that the towel had more hair than what I had on my head. I decided to lose more and had an hair cut for $20 (~Rs. 800). It wasn't special. Moreover, I had an argument with the barber ("hair-stylist") on religion. He got so excited with the talk that he cut his finger and spilled some of his holy blood over my head. And I tipped him $3 additional for the job.

Weather predictions don't work here too (I guess it doesn't work anywhere). Appearances are deceptive. You find it sunny and you'll come out with just your shirt on to find that it's freaking cold. It is gloomy and dark and you come out with your jacket and it is hot! And when stop doing this and come out in your sweats , it will be raining.

Every time I see those tall buildings, I wish I could weave the web and swing away...

Weekends are the most unexciting days in New York. Everything is closed! There isn't a single restroom near the Brooklyn bridge. So, if you are planning to visit it sometime on a Sunday, empty your bladder before you start.

Jet lag never goes away. I find it tough to keep my eyes open at around 5pm everyday.

I was security checked more number of times when I entered statue of liberty that when I entered United States.

I don't know what's with these managers. You come all the way from India after eating home food for 24 years and the very first day in New York, bang - they take you to a Indian Restaurant. Octopus is the only weird thing I ate..that I'm "aware" of. I frankly don't know what I'm eating nowadays.

BTW, I haven't unpacked a single cooking item that I brought from India. Why should I? 27Th street, Lexington avenue is a mini Chennai with Saravana Bhavan, Tamil Nadu Bhavan, Banana leaf, Madras Mahal, Pongal, Kasturi restaurants.

I've drunk more coke (diet coke to be precise) than water.

I've become a huge fan of George Costanza

I miss India so much. I guess I'm too good for New York.
