I was asked the Nth time today that why I don't eat NV on Saturdays. As usual I went about explaining my adventure (rather my parents' adventure) when I was 1 year old. The story goes like this. My family along with 23 odd relatives decided to puncture my ear('kaadhu kuthurathu') at Tirupathi and they all set out there. When all the usual rituals were completed, all the ladies decided to do some shopping and all the men decided to do just stand by them. They also bought me a toy which has a wheel tied to a long stick.
Someone suddenly realized that I was missing (thank god!). The entire group panicked and spread out in groups searching for me. And that's exactly when my mother committed to Lord Venkateshwara that if she gets her son back, she along with her entire family would follow strict habits on Saturdays like eating only veg, taking head-bath, eating rice for only once and not eating any old food as well and there are much more. The Great Lord answered her and my father found me in front of a hotel after 8 hours of search . He says, I was still playing with same toy.
From that day onwards, my entire family is following the practices my mother committed to on all Saturdays... just for me...
PS. I got lost once more when I was 11 in a exhibition in Vijayawada, but I found my way back to the group in an hour anybody could commit something. You see there are so many gods and there are only seven days.
