My love affair continues...

My mom called me yesterday and said that it was raining non-stop at Chennai. I wish I was in chennai right now. No other city (that I've been too) looks more beautiful than Chennai when it rains. Rain and Chennai are two things I love so much, and when they happen together one can imagine the combined effect on me.

Right from my childhood, I loved rain for various reasons. Whenever it rains my street gets flooded and it's party time. My brothers and I make all sorts of boats and let the flood the decide whose boat is better. We go fishing in the nearby pond. We play cricket on the open terrace when it rains. There will be no power so my mom can't ask me to study. Rainy days are the only days in my childhood when I love to go shopping. Walking in knee deep water with an umbrella in one hand and the shopping bag in the other, there were countless instances when I've dropped both into the water. I even drafted a song about rain in Tamil, which my brothers still sing to make fun of me.

As I grew up, cycling in rain became fun. Driving at a tremendous pace in water splashing water all over the place was so satisfying. The best thing is that no one in the road complains since they are already wet. They watch me amusingly. And train journeys are the best. With everyone in the train trying to get inside as much as possible to avoid the rain drops hitting them, I stay near the door and poke my head outside the compartment door. Oh! what a feeling it is!

I don't see much rain nowadays. It rains in Hyderabad when I'm either inside the office or while I'm asleep. And it never rains on weekends :(

I'll be in chennai in a next couple of weeks and I'm keeping my fingers crossed..

  2. @vignesh,
Yes and No. Yes - it is dedicated to my love for rain. No - for whatever you are assuming.

I'm really hoping for it to rain during my vacation in chennai (but let Diwali be spared :))
